Lady and Bína

Lady and Bína

When your health fails you and you have to rely on the hands of doctors; it may happen that you have to leave your only member of the family - dog. Old people are experiencing this separation very difficult, because their four-legged friend is often the only living soul who accompanies them on their uneasy end of life. We meet many patients with Brontík, who flock tears to their eyes when they see us. They remember the fact that they had to leave their dog at home, with relatives or neighbours, but sometimes it is even worse and the dog ends during their masters hospitalization at the shelter. I hear these sad stories from patients which we visit with Brontík. Today, we are visiting one of the rooms with an old lady (middle picture), who told me that she had to leave her 9-year-old Chihuahua. When she saw us at the door, she bursts into tears, because she sees a dog and remembers her “Bína”. The tears were streaming down her face, and so Brontík replaced her dog in her trembling arms for a while. He was lying in her bed for more than half an hour and stroke himself to sleep. Lady did not move she held him around the neck with her wrinkled hands. I sat on the bed and I was somehow uneasy. So I remembered my mother, father and grandmother, who are no longer among the living. I was interrupted from my sad recollection by a little lady voice, which lies on the next bed (last picture), nurse (for which my elderly people falsely think) they both fell asleep. Indeed, Brontík and the lady for a few minutes actually fell asleep together. Brontík breathing deeply, his head and snout touched her grey hair. Her face was happy and relaxed, and at times it seemed to me that she smiled a little. And even though I cannot read minds, I believe that the lady was dreaming about her beloved Bína. I looked at Brontík and ran my hand over his black fur; he raised his head and looked into my eyes as if to say: "Why did you wake me up? I was running with "Bína" in a green field ". Lady opened her eyes and softly whispered: "Nurse, thank you very much, I had very nice dream." And I patted her thin hands and quietly replied: "Yes, I know you were with Bína ......"
